THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING IN GI:

  • GI (kimono) is the training base of Jiu Jitsu combat. Training in Gi allows training and fighting to be varied and creative because they allow grips that are not only related to the body.
  • Precisely because of the grips, fighting requires far more concentration, thinking and planning ahead of each move.
  • However, probably the most important part of training in GI is the inconvenience that GI causes. This part is of utmost importance because GI teaches us the first step in combat and that is that fighting is anything but pleasant. By wearing the GI of every training session, we make the fight itself less and less unpleasant for us.
  • First of all, gi has its own weight and just carrying it causes exercisers a certain inconvenience until they get used to it. The weight makes it much warmer in the summer so it sweats more in it.
  • But the most important grips that GI allows that can be extremely strong and unbreakable make us unable to distance ourselves from our opponents, so we get extra tired of trying to make distance. Grips can help our opponents and force us to surrender with the force they impose on us on certain parts of the body due to unbearable pressure (knee to stomach or pressure while sitting on our chest preventing us from breathing). With grips our opponents can throw us more easily. Grips can also make it impossible to move and defend with the help of arms and legs with various fixations. In the end, the grips can be reinforced with a GI fabric and maximize friction and thus prevent movement and therefore effective defense of certain levers that can hurt us and make it easier for our opponents.
  • So everything that makes fighting freer, GI makes it impossible or difficult, so we must first learn to defend ourselves from the worst situations that exist in order to prevent their emergence in the future.
  • What is extremely important is that the lack of knowledge of the technique in NO-GI combat can be adequately compensated or compensated by physical strength and readiness while in GI fights it is almost impossible.
  • Saying we don't like GI is like saying we love only a comfortable fight. Of course, everyone who spends a certain amount of time training GI, can always and at any moment manage in NO-GI combat, while in the reverse situation it is impossible or unlikely.

WHY DO WE ALL WEAR THE SAME EQUIPMENT?

  • Each sport requires specific equipment so that practitioners can train safely. If one member comes to training without a GI, they will get a partner who has a Gi who will not be able to practice adequately on it. Therefore, it is necessary that each member has the necessary equipment immediately after the start of training. If we do not have the equipment in stock for you, until it arrives, we will provide you with a loan of equipment. Don't get the equipment yourself before you start training because we have clear rules about what equipment is worn in our trainings.
  • There are two important reasons why we are all in the same equipment in training. The first is not to look at each other's equipment and what they are wearing and then to prioritize our equipment and not BJJ progress. The focus should be on advancement in BJJ and not equipment and therefore we all wear the same and the equipment does not distract us from the skill.
  • The second is the fact that we learn, behave and act as a team and that's how we should look. As members of the world's largest BJJ team!
  • BJJ knowledge is important and not equipment, but Gracie Barra, in cooperation with the world's best manufacturers (Adidas and others), has enabled us to come up with the highest quality equipment and designed it to be allowed in all competition federations. We have the best equipment there is and it's up to us to think about our BJJ advancement.

All equipment is ordered from our GB Shop for Europe, which is located in Portugal and it takes about 2 weeks for the equipment to reach Serbia. For the sake of facilitating the operation and reducing the cost of imports and transport, we order the equipment once a month. It's directly at the club. All orders for equipment are accepted by the 10th of the month with a 100% advance (orders are extremely extensive) and by the end of that same month they are delivered. Ask your coaches about all the details you are interested in.
