"FIRST YEAR OF TRAINING"
Jelena Jevtić

I remember my introductory training as if it were yesterday - I learned some basic movements that are used during the performance of techniques and for the first time in my life Performed a throw! Probably not so spectacular but I felt like an emperor because for God's sake I threw some guy heavier than myself!! The next time, after warming up and practicing the techniques, my jiu jitsu path begins.
I wasn't going to know what I was doing for a long time and that was okay. I never once felt pressured because I was new and not doing something right because everyone around me was supportive and always ready to give advice. That's a great thing about Gracie Barra. Although it is predominantly a male sport with a lot of "hugging" (with the aim of suffocating you or making a lever on some limb), all members of the club are extremely supportive and simply feel that moment of trust, togetherness and camaraderie. All the mental blockages I've had before will be gone by the time I don't even remember 🙂 them anymore
Learning self-defense - that was my initial expectation from BJJ. Now I see how low my expectations were for an all-encompassing skill. Jiu jitsu didn't just take me pounds and improve my fitness, it improved me
and psychic. During sparring (which you start doing only when you feel ready for it) you learn how to react quickly under pressure.
This ability is later reflected in other aspects of life. It has helped me a lot during the transition to a new job as well as in countless other situations.
I've learned a lot of good and quality qualities in this year of training. I can't wait to see what Jiu-Jitsu brings!!

For these 34 years, I have been practicing a mountain of sports, engaged in different group activities, but HONESTLY I have never met a group of people like this that makes the Gracie Barra Serbia team!
I've been thinking for a long time how an old fat man is going to be accepted
In a fight club, but you, led by Daniel, made me feel literally at home! Thank you all for sharing with each and every one of you!
I also have to say that it is rare that at 33-34 years old you meet someone who you can really say that although he is only a few years older than you, a person you can look up to at this age whether it is a philosophy of life, a way of thinking or doing business and for that I thank coach Danijel Brajčić!
And finally, I have to say again thank you to my crazy godfather Janick for pulling my fat ass out of his chair and pushing it on tatami...
Thank you again to everyone and I wish you for my birthday to watch each other for years in the same atmosphere under the watchful eye of our coaches in the best Gracie Barra club in the world - Gracie Barra Belgrade!

"A GREAT WAY TO BRING YOUR BODY
IN SHAPE, INCREASE SELF-CONFIDENCE
AND IT'S A LOT OF FUN."
Milica Ćosić

When I wanted to play a sport a year ago, I found out that there is a club in my city where BJJ is trained. At first I didn't know on what principles this martial art was based on, but the name itself interested me, so after various fights and videos about BJJ watched on the Internet, I decided to start training.
BJJ is a South American variant of the traditional, Japanese ju ju jitsu but developed and modernized by the brothers Carlos and Helio Gracie. Japanese immigrants brought jutsu and judo with them to Brazil at the beginning of the 20th century and began teaching Brazilians in addition to the Japanese. In this sport, most of the fight is played in the floor (on the ground) where the goal is to make a lever on the arm, leg or choke the opponent and thus force him to surrender the match. As a girl, it's good for me because there are no hits.
At the beginning of training, it is very important to warm up all parts of the body well so that there is no injury. We use those twenty minutes to do exercises that will later help us to be more elastic and to learn a new technique more easily. After that, the coach explains the technique by specifically highlighting the details that we need to pay attention to, then we do variations on the technique depending on the situation in which we find ourselves and the opponent's reaction. In doubles, we practice techniques after which we do sparring matches by changing opponents every 5 minutes. It is also the most interesting part of training because it encourages us to be creative and to plan each movement in advance. It is not said without reason that Jiu Jitsu is like human chess. After 1.5 hours of training, we always have time to talk to the trainer about the doubts related to the activities from the training. There is a great atmosphere in training, more experienced members always help newcomers to fit in and to progress faster. I made a lot of friends at the club with whom I also hang out privately.
If you don't mind wrestling with someone right after you've met them and want to learn self-defense techniques, BJJ is right for you. It's not just a great way to get your whole body in shape, it's also practical, it boosts self-confidence and it's a lot of fun.

When you say to someone on the side, "BJJ changed my life," they'll think you're overwhelmed by your current passion for sports and they won't understand. BJJ literally changed my life and here's why...
Before BJJ, I trained Barra Fit (Gracie Barra fitness program) and was pleased to get my body into the shape I wanted. Since coach Danijel was a huge support in this great change of life for me (we are talking about unhealthy eating, without any kind of sports for decades ago), I was interested in why he loves this sport so much, which makes it special and different from everything else...
When you start training BJJ, little by little it starts to take you under its wing in the best possible sense. You want to have healthy habits so that you can be as healthy, stronger and better as possible so that you can train as easily and better as possible.
Unlike any other sport the best thing about Brazilian Jiu Jitsi is that while your body strengthens you mentally so that you are ready to face any problems that life brings you. It increases self-confidence, makes you much more satisfied. This is evidenced by smiling faces from the end of each of our training sessions and it is about people from different sides and traits, who are connected by love for this sport.
The beauty of BJJ definitely lies in the fact that this is truly a sport for everyone - so it's not just a phrase that is pronounced. Everyone has a place in it whether they want to compete, learn self-defense, recreate or deal with this in life. Especially since there is no age limit that limits you. A lot of people have asked me what I'm looking for in a martial art in my fourth decade of life! The fact is that few things in the world can compare to this and make me really happy.
A month after my start of training and my three kids started training BJJ, where through play and fun they learn the most important martial art and self-defense. Since the world our children are growing up in is quite harsh and not at all naïve, BJJ will help them to be ready for it in every way - it will strengthen their confidence, teach them discipline and concentration and most importantly - they will know how to defend themselves! Thanks to incredibly patient coaches DaniJel and Milos, my children can't wait for training, they love them and they have fun. Now they want us to play and practice no matter where we are - in the room or in the meadow.
A huge thank you to our coach, Danijel Brajčić, who was with me in the most difficult moments of giving up and thinking, as well as to my training team, which was an incredible support.
BJJ has become an integral part of my and my children's lives and we plan to keep it that way for a long time to come!
Another important thing about BJJ is that you can't explain it to someone who hasn't experienced it, so I'd recommend everyone try it and guarantee they won't regret it!

"JIU JITSU CHANGES LIVES"
Nenad Rajković

Most people spend most of their day sitting in front of a computer in the car. We lead a low-quality life, poor diet, bad habits in general that end up having systemic diseases such as cholesterol, diabetes, etc.
Today it is normal to be stressed even though you have no basis for it. Despondency, dissatisfaction and "boredom" have become imposed social norms...
When I first came to BJJ training, I was silently watching what was happening on tatami.
Although I have been playing sports all my life, what I saw there did not seem easy at all, on the contrary. Gracie Barra team did this training so-called "easy roll", in other words, the whole training i.e. For 2 hours there was light sparring. Fight in the floor, transitions, one minute you are in a bad position in the next you are in a great position and it depends only on you whether you keep it or not. There's not much to talk about, say goodbye to your sparring partner and roller skating begins. The atmosphere is friendly and working. The first thing I thought was that I wouldn't be able to do it, two hours of sparring, it's very realistic, I mean, you have to work eight hours at work and then two hours of sparring... What determined me to try though was the extremely relaxed atmosphere at the training and members of the club as a family, unreserved support, understanding and selfless exchange of knowledge.
At that moment I never dreamed that after two months of training I would make so many friends, real honest ones who give a lot and ask for nothing, that what seemed difficult and hard to me was actually a set of natural movements that are easily performed, that I will lose 5 kg and after a long time be satisfied with my appearance, that I will feel bad every time I don't make it to training, that I don't go to training because of grumpiness or any other reason there is no option, that I will be encouraged by the coach and my entire BJJ family to compete in the next next competition and believe me, I have no intention of sitting at home while my family members leave my heart on tatami, I'm going to leave him and I'll do anything to avoid embarrassing them...
I write this for people who have forgotten that life does little things. The solution is right next to you. Get out of your comfort zone, put on a kimono and come be part of our great Gracie Barra family. Happiness can't be bought or paid for, but you can pay for BJJ classes that will definitely make you happy.
